End of Day PRAYER POINT
About this Prayer Point
Developing a discipline of doing this exercise and
prayer before going to be bed each night can be a powerful habit of spiritual growth in grace.
This Prayer Point includes two parts; The Daily Examination of Consciousness and Compline.
The Daily Examination of Consciousness is a
centuries old form of reflective prayer developed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola
(1491-1556). There are many variations
of this spiritual exercise. The one that
follows was based on information found on the Jesuit website, http://norprov.org/spirituality/ignatianprayer.htm#
and from the book, The Emotionally Healthy Church, by Peter Scazzero, 2003 (pgs. 79-80)
Compline (pronounced KOMP lin) is the traditional
common prayer said before going to bed.
The prayers used here were adapted from the 1979 American version of the
Book of Common Prayer and would be very close to what John Wesley, an Anglican
Priest and the founder of Methodism, would have been familiar.
